1. Connect the high school students attending this event, all of whom are aspiring educators, with National Board Certified Teachers who can act as mentors as they move through the profession.
2. Share information about National Board Certification with the teachers and administrators who were at the conference as chaperones or advisors for their schools' Future Educator's Association (FEA) clubs.
These goals are part of NUPTDC's plans to infuse access to the National Board tools and processes in all phases of teacher preparation, from pre-service through initial licensing and on to advance NB certification. Part of the plan is to encourage aspiring teachers to learn about the National Board process by connecting with NBCT mentors. They can interact informally with mentors to get career advice and encouragement. By connecting their teachers and administrators to the National Board process and encouraging them to become certified, our hope is that they, as powerful role models for these students, will also help put them on the pathway to an accomplished teaching career.
We had a great time interacting with and getting inspired by hundreds of high school students with aspirations to not just become teachers, but to become aspiring teachers. If you want to feel good about the future of our profession, attend one of these conferences--next year's is in Orlando, Fla. In the meantime, check out some of the pictures from this event in the slide show below.
